Volunteering opportunities
As our charity grows and the potential becomes clearer we need to add to our small enthusiastic volunteer group with the following part-time remote working roles.
With theatres facing increasing pressure on costs our charity is providing a real lifeline, but we need to build awareness and connections with the people who are charged with meeting these challenges.
Current Opportunities
Volunteer General Manager
theatre works! is a largely volunteer based UK and US charity. The charity is just over four years old and has provided grants to over 25,000 children from underserved communities to experience live theatre and related educational experiences. As part of the long-term plans for the continued growth and sustainability of the charity the trustees have agreed to seek the services of a part-time General Manager to progressively assume the operational roles presently performed by the two founders of the charity, Sharon Studer and Graham Beckett.
Principle duties will include oversight of a friendly and committed team of eight part-time volunteers and three paid part-time freelance members. Functions include grants administration, fundraising, education and marketing
Specific duties will include:
Fundraising is a key priority, as it is for any charity and we seek applicants with experience in this area
Overseeing preparation of social media, quarterly newsletter, educational and fundraising programmes
Oversight of grants activity
Preparing materials Trustee Meetings, three-times a year
General admin matters, such as occasional contact with The Charity Commission, insurance matters, etc.
Overall management of team.
The founders will be progressively reducing their time commitment, but plan to stay involved, particularly in regard to fundraising.
We are looking for a commitment to three days a week, working remotely, either in the UK or US. This role can also be a job share if preferred.

Volunteer Grants Coordinator
At theatre works! our mission is to make theatre accessible to children and young people from underserved communities.
We are a four-year-old registered charity operating in the UK and US awarding grants to schools, community groups and theatres. We’ve supported over 25,000 children within this time, which has seen many children aged 7-16 experience the magic of live theatre for the first time. We’re proud that our grants cover school trips to the theatre, including tickets, transport and related educational activities. You’ll be joining at an exciting time as we continue to grow.
About the role: In this flexible role, you’ll work remotely choosing your hours and will be responsible for reviewing grant applications against our eligibility criteria and communicating with our Independent Assessor. You’ll be the first point of contact for any potential applicants and answer any enquiries related to grants submissions. You’ll also attend our brief monthly grants review meeting and be part of ensuring our grants support the children who will most benefit from our support.
You’ll join our growing team and help support the charity’s ambitious plans for the future.
Reporting to: Operations Director
Time commitment: Flexible. Remote. Approximately two - three hours per week, depending on seasonality.
(Quiet periods typically July - August and January - February).
We’re looking for someone who:
· Is proficient with Microsoft Office (particularly Excel)
· Has good admin skills and attention to detail
· Has genuine interest in the wellbeing of children, theatre and education
· Has good interpersonal skills
· Is a team player
Desirable, but not essential: Understanding or experience with CRM systems

Theatre Development Volunteer (US)
The role:
As we become established with more and more theatres, we require a volunteer to liaise with theatres to support their grant applications, and with our Grants Coordinator. We aim to support these partners in providing tickets and related educational activities to schools with the most socially and children from underserved communities. 
We are presently working with several regional theatres across the US, for example Gable Stage, Miami, FL; Adrienne Arsht Centre, Miami, FL; Actors Playhouse, Miami, FL; Timeline Theatre, Chicago, IL; Shakespeare Theatre, Chicago, IL; Guthrie Theatre, Minneapolis, MN; Weathervane Theatre, Whitefield, NH; The Majestic Theatre, San Antonio, TX; American Players Theatre, Spring Green, WI; Shakespeare Company, Lenox, MA; and Alabama State Festival Theatre, Montgomery, AL, and are regularly adding new theatre partners. We also collaborate with prominent theatres in major cities and other leading performing arts centers nationwide.
Time commitment: Flexible. Remote. One half day (4 hours) to one full day per week (8 hours).

Fundraising Volunteer (UK and US)
The role:
To help us raise the level of donor giving to support our growing level of grants to schools, community groups and theatres. Support the development of programmes to reach Trusts & Foundations, potential corporate and high net worth donors for whom bringing theatre and related educational experiences to children from underserved communities has appeal. 
Time commitment: Flexible. Remote. One half day (4 hours) to one full day per week (8 hours).
