update report - December 2022

Grants for over 1000 schoolchildren have now been provided by theatre works!

Here are some of the wonderful quotes we received from teachers and children during the autumn, two from children and the last one from a teacher

'I think it was a better experience, I thought that it might get slightly tired because we have already read the play in class, however, the cast did a brilliant job at making the play a lot more than the script.’

'I thought the performance was extremely impressive and very well done. It was a little different to the play in class but I really liked the bits they added.

'... our students could be heard gasping and cheering and clapping, truly experiencing the best that a live performance can offer!’

Grant age range extended

We are now accepting grant applications for disadvantaged children in Key Stages 2-4 (ages 7-16).

Applicants can apply for grants up to £2000, which can be used to purchase theatre tickets, bring in a professional touring company, pay for transport and in some cases, provide related workshops.

To be eligible, schools need to have be at or near to the 20% Pupil Premium (free school meals) level.

In these austere times, UK school budget cuts have meant pupils have moved away from subjects such as drama and music. Government figures suggest funding for some creative subjects are down by as much as a fifth. Given that 22% of children in state education are on free school meals - provided when household incomes after tax are £7,400 or less (excluding benefits) - it demonstrates the limited access many children are likely to have to the theatre.

Next grant application dates are: December 31st and March 31st. See the new simplified Grant Application form and FAQs.
